Something about MS-DOS
Microsoft DOS is a command note user interface best presented in 1981 for IBM PC and was last updated in 1994 when MS-DOS 6.22 went published. Instructions for formatting DOS  

Be positive you get a bootable floppy disc or CD.
Put In the disc into the PC, and turn it on. The computer will reboot to a black screen reading simply an “A:>” prompt or a prompt indicating the letter of the drive you booted from. You can also accomplish this by bringing up your computer with the disk in the drive.
Typewrite “format c: /s” and hit “Enter.” The data format procedure will start.
Shot “Y” on the keyboard for “Yes” when asked “Are you sure you wish to delete everything along drive c:,” and then press out “Enter.”
Remove the disk, and boot your PC. It will boot to the “C:” set from the hard disk.
